Martin Heidegger was the first philosopher who articulated a critique of technology - at a time when the optimism about technological progress was still intact. With automation and the possibility of mass unemployment looming, with CGI and deep fakes in media, with the sense of loss of place and time experienced online, Heidegger’s thoughts on technology are slowly beginning to show their depth. Far from being Luddite Heidegger tries to understand where technology comes from and how we can establish a free relationship with technology. What is crucial for this, is our acceptance of our mortality and natural limitations.
